Crash Snarls Traffic on Dan Ryan Expressway

A multi-vehicle pileup near 85th Street on the Dan Ryan Expressway left one person dead and at least three others injured and snarled traffic during Wednesday’s morning commute.

The crash took place around 5 a.m. and involved a semi truck and three other cars, according to authorities.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said one person was killed in the crash.

One child was transported in serious-to-critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs.

At least one person was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in very serious condition, officials said.

Chicago Fire Media tweeted that three people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition.

As of 6:30 a.m., at least one lane was open on the expressway, officials said.

Another person was injured in a separate crash on the city’s South Side after a semi jack-knifed and burst into flames in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57.

The extent of the driver’s injuries was not immediately known.
