Crash Flips Ambulance Responding to Emergency on Side, Medics Injured: Police

An ambulance responding to a call in Palatine was involved in a crash with a van Thursday that left two paramedics injured and the emergency vehicle flipped on its side, police confirmed.

The ambulance was traveling west on Palatine Road when the van struck it at the intersection of Rohlwing Road, according to the preliminary investigation by Palatine police.

The ambulance rolled onto its side and the van spun before striking a light standard and knocking it down, police said.

Two other vehicles sustained minor damage after being struck by the van and the light pole, police said.

Two Palatine paramedics were taken to an area hospital with injuries that appeared to not be life-threatening, police said.

Traffic at the intersection of Palatine and Rohlwing Roads was temporarily shut down while police investigated the accident.
