Coworkers of Slain Family Dollar Employee Offer Reward in Search for Killer

Customers remember slain man as “such a nice man”

The coworkers of a Family Dollar employee who was shot to death earlier this month when he tried to stop a shoplifter are offering a reward for information about his killer.

The friends and fellow dollar store employees of J'Quinn McCune, 30, are offering $6,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case of his death.

McCune was working at the Family Dollar store at 79th Street and Ashland Avenue on July 5 when a man he was reportedly trying to stop from shoplifting shot him in the chest. The Rev. Michael Pfleger and community activist Andrew Holmes say someone out there knows something.

“They bragged about it, they talked about (it). So if anyone knows anything about it: post it up on Facebook, post it up on social media,” Holmes said.

Pfleger also encouraged whoever might know something to come forward with information.

“The hell with snitching ... when you don’t say anything and you know something, you put everyone else’s life at risk. That person doesn’t just shoot one time,” he said.

Family Dollar customers and coworkers remembered McCune as a family man, “such a nice man” and a “very good guy.”

“Don’t wait until it’s your relative before you get angry and upset. Help now,” Pfleger said. “Stop protecting murderers.”
