Suspects Elude Police After ‘Possible Barricade' Situation in Park Forest

Sky 5 captured dramatic video as police released smoke at the scene of a possible barricade situation in south suburban Park Forest Monday night.

The situation started around noon as a home burglary in the 100 block of Hemlock Street.

“Witnesses reported seeing suspects flee into a home nearby,” said Deputy Police Chief Christopher Mannino.

Police were unable to make contact with the suspects and believed one may have been armed with a gun. The South Suburban Emergency Response Team was called in.

“It’s better to be safe than sorry,” Mannino said.

Police with guns drawn surrounded the house for hours.

“My daughter called me and she asked me, ‘Mom, what’s going on over your house?’” said Shelby Green, a neighbor.

Green and others were asked to stay away from the home in question. They say the police activity is unusual in their neighborhood.

“I was like in awe,” Green said. “Really in our neighborhood, it’s so quest over here.”

Another neighbor, Latonya Garnett, echoed Green’s shock.

“It’s a quiet neighborhood—and it’s just sad,” Garnett said. “I’m hoping everyone is OK, I’m praying for everyone.

Police only have a vague description of the suspects involved.
