When it comes to catching a thief, Riverside police are thankful for an active citizenry.
Dominick Harvey, 43 of the 3600 block of Cuyler in Berwyn was arrested Wednesday after local residents recognized him as the man who left a partial photo on the laptop he allegedly stole, according to police.
Last month, a burglar stole cash, jewelry and computer equipment, including an Apple Macbook Pro, from two homes in Riverside. The laptop was recovered by the police, who found the suspect's photo saved on it.
Police said members of the community were able to pinpoint the identity of the man based on the released photo.
"This arrest was a prime example of the community, local businesses and police tactical units working together," said Chief Tom Weitzel. Weitzel said Harvey was identified about 15 minutes after the release of the picture.
Harvey is a repeat offender, according to police, and is serving parole for residential burglary. He admitted to running from the police after his photo was made public.
Harvey was charged with two counts of residential burglary.
