Chicago's record heat wave took more lives over the weekend.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed eight more people died from heat-related causes. One of the victims was 100 years old. An autopsy revealed Lucille Griffith died from a combination of heart disease and heat stress.

The medical examiner's office had already determined 10 others died from the heat, bringing the total number of victims to 18.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to study the city's response to the extreme heat.

Emanuel instructed the Office of Emergency Management to examine how the city's resources were used and if they could be used better in the future. City officials say their efforts were not enough since people died in the heat.

The report is due in 60 days.
