Evanston Not Keen on Tilted Kilt

Mayor & City Council will make final decision to grant the business a liquor license

Resident's of Evanston are pushing back against short skirts.

Business owner Ted Mavrakis wants to open a Tilted Kilt sports bar at his Fountain Square building at 1601 Sherman Ave, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Several residents oppose the opening saying the company's provocatively dressed staff sells sex. Nearly 2,000 signed a petition asking Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and the city's Liquor Control Review Board to deny a liquor license to the business.

Proponents think Tilted Kilt would give a boost to Evanston's struggling downtown.

Tilted Kilt sports bars started in 2003 in Las Vegas. They're described as a "contemporary, Celtic-themed sports pub staffed with beautiful servers", according to the company's website.

Mayor Tisdahl is expected to decide next week if she'll recommend granting the business a license. The final decision will be made by the Evanston City Council.
