A 20-year-old college student from the Chicago area has been reported missing in Boulder, Colorado.
Berry Tyler Allen, a University of Colorado student from suburban Western Springs, was reported missing by his parents Saturday.
Allen, who goes by the name of Tyler, was last seen April 11 and last communicated with friends via text message last Thursday.
Family members said they were notified of Allen’s disappearance after his roommates called to tell them he hadn't been seen in a few days.
Allen’s mother, Sheryl Allen, said they filed a police report and traveled to Boulder to look for their son.
“We do always talk on Sundays, just to catch up,” Sheryl Allen said. “That’s why we waited at home on Sunday to hear from him and when we didn’t hear from him we came out [to Boulder] Monday morning. And that’s when we feel that this had turned into an emergency.”
Sheryl Allen said her son had just transferred to the school this semester to be closer to the mountains. She said he often ventures in nature, but typically tells his family beforehand.

“He does seek solace in nature so if he did do something like that we know that the weather changed last weekend and we’re just worried that he may have gotten into a situation, but we don’t know even where he would have started going so it’s very difficult,” she said.
Allen was last seen carrying his guitar, his laptop and a backpack. He is described as being about 140 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Sheryl Allen said her son’s phone has been off for several days, making cell phone tracking impossible.
“We don’t know if he was going somewhere on campus, where he was going,” she said. “We have so many options that we’re thinking of and worried about.”
University of Colorado faculty and students and Boulder Police are involved in the search for Allen.
Sheryl Allen said her son may have reached out to a friend or someone he knew in the Chicago area.
A post on the university’s Facebook page about Allen’s disappearance has been shared more than 800 times.
“The thing that is really keeping us going is known the compassion of everybody that’s reaching out to us,” she said. “It just really gives us faith in our country and the goodness of people.”
The family has also set up a Facebook page called FindTylerNow.
