It's the first day of spring! Warmer temperatures are ahead but you shouldn't get used to them. (Published Saturday, Mar 22, 2014)

What spring? That’s what many Chicagoans were asking themselves Thursday morning.

The Chicago area marked the “end of winter” with some morning flurries Thursday, but things are set to warm up just in time for the start of spring as temps reach near 50 degrees during the afternoon.

Spring officially begins at 11:57 a.m.

A brief warm front will give Chicago a taste of seasonal weather Friday with temperatures spiking near 60 degrees.

Don’t be deceived by the spring-like weather, however, because a wet and breezy cold front is expected to bring things back to February-like conditions heading into the weekend.

Snow showers and isolated storms are possible late Friday as conditions become cold and breezy.

Expect a high of 39 degrees Saturday, marking the warmest temperature forecast until the middle of next week. Lake-effect snow showers also are possible.

Sunday should be less windy, but temps will dip into the low 30s.

With a chance for snow in the forecast Monday, it would appear Mother Nature didn't get the spring memo.
