A man was charged over the weekend with attempting to board a plane at Midway Airport with a weapon, police said.
A Chatham man called it an honest mistake bringing a loaded handgun into Midway Airport, his attorney says.
Willie Thomas, 51, of the 8300 block of South Wabash Avenue, is charged with attempting to board a plane with a weapon, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Thomas went through a security checkpoint at Midway Saturday morning, said prosecutors. An X-ray scan showed a semiautomatic .25-caliber Beretta pistol in his laptop bag, said Michael Schmeige, Thomas’ attorney.
The Streets and San worker was arrested Saturday and ordered held on $30,000 bond the following day.
Thomas has a valid state firearms card, according to a police report.
