City Proposes Sale Of Beer At Wrigley Field Plaza

Fans could buy drinks at kiosks in new outdoor area

Cubs fans would be able to buy beer from an outdoor plaza at the renovated Wrigley Field under a recent City Council proposal.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) introduced the ordinance at Tuesday's council meeting. If passed, it would allow fans to purchase wine and beer at a plaza next to the field for Cubs games or other events. They could also bring their stadium drinks into the outdoor area. However, they wouldn't be allowed to leave the plaza with any alcohol in hand.

The plaza would be open year-round when the Cubs are playing at home or away, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. It would close at 11 p.m. during the week and at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The team also hopes to use the area for live music, ice skating and farmer's markets.

Tunney's proposal comes after city officials gave the Cubs an additional 10 feet of street and sidewalk space, according to the Sun-Times. The team will also be able to sell advertising on the arch over Clark Street.

Both decisions incensed Wrigleyville residents, the Sun-Times reported.
