City Creating More Snow, Seriously

Snow sculptors need more, so city's providing it

Not content with the eight inches already fallen from the sky, the city plans to make more snow this afternoon.

The reason: Snow sculptors, who plan to craft their handiwork Jan. 27th for the 'Snow Time" festival in Grant Park.

"We need about 40 tons, and it needs to pristine," said Cindy Gatziolis, spokeswoman for the Mayor's Office of Special Events, to the Sun-Times. "If you gather up snow from the ground, you get grass, candy wrappers and all the muck and mire from shoveling."

Hey, y'know. Artists. So persnickety.

The city will be making snow continuously through Sunday and packed into 10-foot-high blocks for the sculptors.
