Christkindlmarket Opens in New Naperville Location Friday

Christkindlmarket opens for the season in its new suburban location.

The annual German holiday festival will begin selling its iconic holiday gifts and treats at 11 a.m. Friday in Naperville.

The market announced it was moving its suburban location to Naperville earlier this year, a switch that allowed the festival to nearly double in size.

"This new location offers an exciting opportunity for the market, which is free and open to the public, to expand and grow," said Maren Biester Priebe, general manager of German American Events, in a recent press release.

The market will abandon its previous suburban location in Oak Brook to take advantage of nearly 15,000 square feet and space for almost twice as many vendors at Naper Settlement in Naperville.

About 40 vendors will be in attendance at this year's festival, including many who also set up shop at the Chicago location. The market has been a holiday staple in Chicago's Loop for 19 years.

All the usual festival activities will be carried over to the Naperville location, including a variety of German beer and spiced wine, live performances and Christkind visits every Sunday.

The Christkindlmarket in Naperville will run Thursdays through Sundays until Christmas Eve. Admission is free.
