Chris Sale Named as Starter for American League All-Stars

The White Sox get to boast of an honor that even the Cubs can’t claim this season.

The Chicago Cubs will be well represented at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night, but the Chicago White Sox get to boast of an honor that even the Cubs can’t claim this season.

That’s because the White Sox will put their best pitcher on the mound to start the game, as Chris Sale was named the starting pitcher for the American League club on Tuesday night. Sale, who has a 14-3 record this season, is appearing in his fifth consecutive All-Star Game, and he will face off against San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto to begin the Midsummer Classic.

The Cubs do have four starters who will appear in the game, and they play prominent roles in the team’s starting lineup, as chosen by New York Mets skipper Terry Collins.

Second baseman Ben Zobrist will lead-off for the N.L. squad, and Kris Bryant (making his second consecutive appearance in the game), will play third base and bat third. First baseman Anthony Rizzo will bat sixth for the N.L., and Addison Russell will start at shortstop and bat ninth as the N.L. tries to secure home-field advantage in the World Series.
