Child Shot in Leg on City's Southwest Side: Police

Police say the child was not the intended target

Chicago police are investigating a shooting that left a child wounded on the city’s Southwest Side.

The child was shot in the leg at approximately 3 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Wolcott in the West Englewood neighborhood, according to police.

Investigators have not released the child’s age, but only confirmed that the victim is a juvenile and was treated at Comer Children’s Hospital. He was not the intended target.

Neighbors say the child was playing on the sidewalk when someone began to shoot.

No arrests were made as of Saturday night.
