Missing Chicago Girl Found at Friend's Home

Kendra-Broughton was last seen Thursday at her elementary school

A 7-year-old Chicago girl who vanished after school Thursday was found safe at a friend's house, police said.

Kendra Broughton vanished after leaving Powell Elementary Paideia Community Academy, at 7511 South South Shore Drive, on Thursday afternoon.

Police just before 8 a.m. Friday said Broughton went to a friend's house after school to play and stayed overnight without calling her mom, Nicole Broughton.

Conchedia Depratto lives in the same apartment complex as the friend, on the 7200 block of South South Shore Drive, and called police alert them that the girl was in the apartment complex. Depratto said she recalled seeing Broughton playing with a friend on Thursday afternoon.

Depratto found the girl and informed her there was a big search for her. The 7-year-old then called her mother to tell her she was OK.

Kendra Broughton was last seen Thursday at her elementary school. Her mother, Nicole Broughton, spoke with NBC Chicago’s Emily Florez early Friday morning.
