Chicago's 102nd Christmas Tree Selected for Millennium Park

The 63-foot blue spruce was chosen out of 130 submissions and will be cut down Monday

Chicago officially has a Christmas tree.

The tree is a 63-foot Colorado blue spruce donated by the Voelker family from northwest suburban Northlake, according to a release from the City of Chicago.

The blue spruce was chosen out of 130 submissions. The tree will be cut down on Monday, and delivered to its newest location at Millennium Park on Tuesday.

For the past 48 years, with one exception, Chicago’s Christmas Tree stood on Daley Plaza.

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Nov. 24 at Millennium Park at Washington and Michigan Avenue. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with the official lighting happening at 6 p.m.

The event is free and will feature performances by soprano Renée Fleming and cast members from Emerald City Theatre’s "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
