Chicagoans Vote: ‘The Dark Knight' Picked as Favorite Chicago-Made Film

It’s official – Chicagoans’ favorite Chicago-made film isn’t city classics like the “Blues Brothers” or “Home Alone” or even “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” It’s “The Dark Knight.”

The Oscar-winning film was voted as a resident favorite and will be screened for the finale of the Millennium Park Summer Film Series.

As many as 12,433 votes were cast via chifilmfave.org and on-site at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion to make the decision. “The Dark Knight” claimed the top spot with 2,333 votes.

Among the other film options were “Adventures in Babysitting,” “Ali,” “Backdraft,” “Barbershop,” “Blues Brothers,” “Color of Money,” “Divergent,” “High Fidelity,” “Home Alone,” “Love Jones,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Ordinary People,” “Public Enemy,” “Risky Business,” “Road to Perdition,” “The Fugitive,” “Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon,” “The Untouchables” and “While You Were Sleeping.”

“The Dark Knight” was filmed in Chicago in the summer of 2007 and features city staples like the Willis Tower, Navy Pier and Lower Wacker Drive.

The final film in the free Summer Film Series will be screened Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Other hit shows that played at the venue this summer were “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “A League of Their Own,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Grease,” “Finding Nemo,” “Purple Rain,” and several others.
