One of two Chicago men charged in planning the "Mickey Mouse Project" assault on Danish newspapers earlier this year has now been officially accused in last year's terror attack in Mumbai, the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago announced today.
David Headley surveilled Indian targets extensively for two years before the November 2008 attack that killed 174 people, prosecutors alleged, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is charged with six counts of conspiracy related to the Mumbai attack.
Headley's cooperating with authorities. His co-defendant in the "Mickey Mouse Project" case, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, is suspected of paying for Headley's surveillance missions but has not been charged.
Federal prosecutors also annoucned charges against a retired major in the Pakistani military, Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed, for allegedly taking part in the "Mickey Mouse Project" plot.
