Peapod, the Chicago-based grocer that delivers to homes all over the country, celebrated 20 years in business today with a celebration in NBC plaza.

The founding brothers, Andrew and Thomas Parkinson, introduced their Internet-based innovation two decades ago by handing out 400 modem sets to area residents.

Today they dished up a giant iced cake in observance of their anniversary, along with free ice cream, snack food, and cold beverages provided by Peapod's partners.

Employees decked in Peapod costumes even posed for pictures while they collected donated canned goods.

The festivities concluded with a trip to the Greater Chicago and Northern Illinois food banks -- where the company delivered 20,000 cans to the needy.
