A Chicago Police sergeant was injured when a vehicle rear-ended a police car early Thursday in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The sergeant was stopped in a police car in the 5500 block of South Morgan at 2:55 a.m. when another vehicle hit the police car from behind, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.

The sergeant was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the driver of the other car was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, both with non-life-threatening injuries, Gaines said.

The crash appeared to be alcohol-related, and charges against the driver are pending, Gaines said.
