Chicago Police Officer Shoots 23-Year-Old Man

A Chicago police officer has shot a man early Saturday in the South Shore neighborhood after responding to a report of men with guns.

Deputy Chief Berscott Ruiz says police saw four men on a corner on Chicago's South Side when they arrived around 12:10 a.m. Saturday.

One of the men fled the scene but officers chased him. Ruiz says officers saw the man had a gun and told him to stop. He says the 23-year-old raised the weapon and pointed it at police before an officer shot him.

The man was taken to an area hospital. His condition was not available and authorities didn't release his name.

Police say a weapon was found at the scene.

Kesha Williams tells The Chicago Tribune she witnessed the shooting and didn't hear police tell the man to stop.
