Chicago Officer Shoots Man Carrying Assault Weapon

Police said the man emerged from a room and pointed the weapon at the officers

A Chicago police officer responding to a domestic dispute call has shot and killed a man who confronted officers with an automatic assault weapon.

A police statement says the man emerged from a room and pointed the weapon at the officers inside an apartment building on the city's West Side.

The officers were let inside the apartment on the 200 block of North Homan at 2:15 a.m. Thursday by a woman who warned them that the man was inside and armed with a gun.

None of the officers was injured.

Police say they recovered two weapons at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority.
