Chicago Named Among Top 10 Best Baseball Cities for 2016 — But Not No. 1

It’s no secret Chicago fans are among the most loyal in baseball. And coming from a city so strongly divided by baseball allegiance, fans might be surprised to find out where the city ranks among 2016’s “best baseball cities.”

According to financial website Wallethub, Chicago isn’t even among the top five cities.

The report looked at factors like performance level, average ticket prices, minimum sesaon ticket prices for college games, stadium capacity and fan engagement.

Chicago ranked 10th on the list, coming behind Pittsburgh; San Francisco; Cincinnati; Arlington, Texas; Boston; Atlanta; Los Angeles; St. Louis; and New York City.

The city was falted for having some of the most expensive average ticket prices, least accessible MLB and college stadiums and least engaged college baseball fans.

In total, 361 cities were ranked on the list.

Other Illinois cities to be named were Macomb, which ranked at no.254, Evanston at no. 352, Normal at no. 298, Geneva at no. 257, Edwardsville at no. 223, Carbondale at no. 176, Peoria at no. 140, DeKalb at no. 117, Charleston at no. 110 and Champaign at no. 50.
