Chicago Man Charged With Punching, Kicking CTA Rider

Police released video footage of the incident earlier this week

A Chicago man faces criminal charges in connection with the assault of a senior citizen on a Chicago Transit Authority Yellow Line train last month.

Ganaa Otgoo, 32, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street was charged with one count of aggravated battery, Skokie Police said. He is accused of punching and kicking a man until the victim fell to the floor, resulting in severe bruising.

Police released video footage of the incident earlier this week, and authorities said community assistance led to Otgoo's arrest. He is due in court on May 2.

Police said a man got on the Skokie Swift train with a purple and white bicycle at about 8:45 p.m. on March 28. He began yelling at other passengers and directed at least one comment to the victim.

The victim told the man with the bicycle to leave him alone, and that's when the man approached the passenger, grabbed his jacket and pulled it over his head before punching him. The attacker then knocked the victim to the floor and kicked him in the face, police said.

Chicago police described the victim as a senior citizen but did not provide an exact age.

The victim was taken to an area hospital as a result of the incident, police said.

Police said they continue to look for witnesses who were on the train during the attack. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Skokie Police Department at 847-982-5900.
