A 62-year-old Chicago man was arrested Wednesday for the 22nd time for driving on a suspended or revoked license, police said, calling his arrest history “mindboggling.”
Alfredo Luna was stopped around 8:40 a.m. for allegedly going 56 mph in a 30 mph zone in the 3500 block of South Harlem Avenue in south suburban Riverside, according to authorities.
Riverside police said they learned that Luna’s driver’s license was revoked for several prior DUI convictions and arrested him at the scene.
Officials said Luna’s license was revoked in 2003 for a DUI, but noted he had four previous DUI convictions on his record. They also said he had been arrested 21 prior times for driving while his license was suspended or revoked.
Luna, of the 2500 block of North Newland Avenue in Chicago, was charged with felony aggravated driving while license revoked, aggravated speeding and driving without vehicle insurance police said. His vehicle was also seized.
“Mr. Luna, who had four prior DUI convictions and 21 arrests for driving while license suspended or revoked, has no regard for Illinois traffic laws,” Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said in a statement. “It is really mindboggling that an individual would continue to drive after his license has been revoked and have 21 arrests for driving while his license was suspended or revoked.”
Weitzel said Illinois is in desperate need of a habitual DUI and suspended revoke statue because habitual offenders “continue to be arrested for the same violation over and over again with no real consequences.”

He said he plans to propose legislation to “close that loophole” in the near future.
It was not immediately clear if Luna had an attorney.
