Chicago Couple Sues Neighbor Over Cat Smell

Couple claims the smell of their neighbor's 20 cats makes their condo unsalable

A Lakeview couple is sick of the stink.

Johanna Torres and Matthew Greenberg filed a lawsuit this week against their downstairs neighbor whose 20 cats they claim have ruined their condo with a permeating smell of urine and feces.

The couple is suing neighbor Rosanna Ioppolo along with condo association members and property managers for allowing her to keep so many cats in the one-room home. The couple claims in the lawsuit the smell makes their condo "impossible to sell" and even unlivable for Torres, who has cat allergies.

They're seeking an unspecified amount of damages and a fiduciary duty against the condo association. They said they spent thousands to clean their home and have tried to sell but failed.

They say Ioppolo moved in about five years after them, and the smell of urine and feces traveled through vents into their condo.

Since then, the couple complained to several condo association members, who did nothing to fix the problem, according to the lawsuit.
