Catholics in Chicago plan a Mass and prayer vigil as the conclave to elect a new Pope begins Tuesday at the Vatican.

The Archdiocese of Chicago plans the services Monday at Holy Name Cathedral in downtown Chicago. Officials with the Archdiocese say they want to be united with Chicago's Cardinal Francis George, who is in Rome for the election. The 75-year-old George is the leader of more than 2 million Roman Catholics in the Chicago area.

The Rev. John Canary will celebrate the Mass in Chicago. He is a monsignor and vicar general of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The prayer vigil will follow the Mass.

Former Pope Benedict XVI stunned the world last month when he announced he would resign the papacy. He officially stepped down Feb. 28.
