Chicago Bears Pick Adrian Amos in Fifth Round of NFL Draft

On the third day of the NFL Draft in 2014, the Chicago Bears drafted a safety, and on Saturday they did the same thing in this draft, taking Penn State safety Adrian Amos in the fifth round.

The Bears were in desperate need of safety help going into this season, and even though they already signed Antrel Rolle in free agency, the addition of Amos to the mix makes a lot of sense. Scouts laud him for his athletic ability, with explosive lateral movement and great pass route recognition coming up often when he’s talked about in NFL circles.

He doesn’t have great straight line speed, running a 4.56 40-yard dash at the Combine, but he dominated in the shuttle events, racking up a 4.03 second run in the 20-yard shuttle and an 11.33 second run in the 60-yard shuttle.

There are questions about Amos’ run support ability, and there was also criticism of his tackling ability in one-on-one situations, but with his grade as a third round talent, he’s still a tremendous value as a fifth round pick.
