Auto Show Honors Late NBC 5 Employee With Scholarship

John Hersey High School student to receive $1,000 scholarship in honor of Carol Cooling

The Chicago Auto Trade Association has announced it will offer a senior at Arlington Heights' John Hersey High School a $1,000 scholarship at the end of the school year in honor of a late NBC 5 employee.

NBC Chicago Special Events Director Carol Cooling passed away last year after a battle with cancer. Cooling was heavily involved with the Chicago Auto Show and was a big part of its success every year. In her memory, the Chicago Auto Trade Association will provide the scholarship.

"Carol came through for us in many different ways and her work ethic was unmatched," John Webb, the chairman of the Chicago Auto Trade Association, said in a news release. "We wanted to make sure she is remembered as a caring, hard working person with a huge heart, and hopefully inspire some young person to do the same."

The scholarship will be awarded to the student who best exemplifies Cooling's loving and respectful character and her unrivaled work ethic. The student must also be a graduating senior who plans to continue his or her education after graduation.

"We are very appreciative of what the Chicago Automobile Trade Association is doing to honor the wonderful Carol Cooling," John Novak, the assistant principal at John Hersey High School, said. "She left a great legacy that will live on through this scholarship."
