Chicago-Area College Makes Top 25 for Best Campus Food

A Chicago area college has claimed a top spot in a national ranking of colleges and universities based on one crucial factor: Campus food options.

Wheaton College, located in the Chicago suburb of the same name, comes in at No. 15 nationwide for its campus food, according to a ranking by the review website Niche.

The schools were ranked based on the average cost of meal plans and the opinions of the students themselves. The average yearly cost of a meal plan at Wheaton College is $3,620, according to information Niche received from the college. Students at Wheaton College gave the campus meals a 4.4 out of 5 rating in Niche's survey.

The No. 1 spot is held by Virginia Tech, whose meal plans cost an average of $3,470 and whose students gave the food a 4.6 out of 5 rating. Finishing out the top five are Washington University in St. Louis, University of California - Los Angeles, Bowdoin College and James Madison University.

More than 1,100 colleges and universities were ranked, but Wheaton College was the only Illinois school in the top 100. The nearest state contender was Illinois State University in Normal, which ranked in 101st place.
