Chelsea and Crew Head to Chicago

Acid-tongued queen of E! Chelsea Handler is headed to Chicago this week for a stand up comedy show at the Chicago Theater.

Handler has a lot going on, lately, with a new TV show (After Lately), book (Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me) and her aforementioned stand-up comedy tour.

Luckily, the E! star has people to talk for her,

Writer Brad Wollack, who will be opening for the “Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me” tour in Chicago on May 11 also appears on the faux-behind-the-scene show "After Lately."

Wollack says the show was inspired by the ridiculous lives of Handler's staff.

“We had so many things going on in our lives and stories around the office that we thought it would be funny to make it into a TV show. It’s never really been done – a scripted behind-the-scenes show for a real show. We think it’s pretty innovative and unique, but then again we’re a bunch of idiotic comedians. People have asked for years what it’s like at Chelsea Lately and now you get a peek.”

The show, airing Sunday nights at 10 PM on E!, tracks the office mayhem between tapings of Chelsea Lately, ranging from provocative leaked photos to wrestling matches with Chuy, Chelsea’s pint-sized sidekick. Although the series centers on Chelsea and her writers, guest stars pop up for unexpected appearances, including Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon.

While the plot lines seem far-fetched for a workplace, Wollack swears they’re grounded in reality.

“Ninety percent of the storylines are mined from true things that have happened and spark inspiration for an idea. There’s some truth in everything.”

As for his boss, he swears, “She doesn’t throw food at me every day. Everything is exaggerated. But you get flashes of who we truly are by watching the show.”

The equally amusing experiences of working for the famous host are documented in her upcoming book, “Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me.” Brad says, “It’s a compilation of stories from friends, family and co-workers of times she’s lied to us and played really elaborate pranks… and it’s purely for her own entertainment.”

Luckily for Chelsea, she’s not the only one entertained.
