A Chicago man was charged Monday after he allegedly stole a taxi cab in the Gold Coast and then hit a police car.

Police said Cortez Carter, 30, of the 8500 block of South Racine Avenue disobeyed a traffic light Sunday and then struck a police Mass Transit vehicle carrying two officers.

Both officers were injured in the crash at 28 E. Walton St. An additional officer was later injured during a foot chase.

Carter was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to police.

He also was ticketed for driving without a license, disobeying two stop signs, negligent driving, reckless driving, damage to public property and failure to render aid in an accident involving injury.
