The Fond du Lac County, Wis., sheriff said the body found there by hunters nearly two weeks ago is probably not the remains of a suburban Chicago policeman's missing wife.
Sheriff Mick Fink said the chances are very slim that the remains are 23-year-old Stacy Peterson of Bolingbrook, who vanished about a year ago, but he said detectives from there have called to compare notes.
Peterson's husband, 54-year-old Drew Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, is a suspect in his wife's disappearance. He has not been charged and has repeatedly said he thinks his wife ran off with another man and is alive.
Fink said at least 18 police agencies have contacted his department to inquire about the body but there are no good leads on the woman's identity.
