Suspect found and charged with stealing three cell phones in the downtown area

A Chicago man was charged Tuesday with allegedly stealing cell phones Monday from three separate victims.

Michael Roberson, 28, of the 600 block of North McClurg Court was charged with two felony counts of theft and one felony count of retail theft.

Roberson was arrested around 2 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of North Clark Street, police said. A female victim recognized him as the man who began a conversation with her Monday before taking her smart phone from a restaurant table near Dearborn and Division streets around 1 p.m.

Another phone was stolen around 1:30 p.m. from a store near State and Chicago Avenue, police said. The third phone was taken at approximately 1:15 p.m. from the jacket of a 45-year-old man at a business near State and Chestnut Street, according to police.
