Carnival Worker Charged With Assault of 2 Toddlers

29-year-old arrested last week in Missouri while traveling with the carnival

A carnival worker from Chicago faces felony sexual assault charges after authorities said they found videos showing the assault of two toddlers.

Wilfredo Elias, 29, was charged with felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and manufacturing child pornography, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez's office confirmed in a statement.

Elias was arrested last week in Missouri while traveling with the carnival, Alvarez's office said. He was extradited to Chicago and ordered held without bond.

Prosecutors said a witness discovered a USB computer memory storage device last July in a family storage area belonging to Elias. The witness told authorities the files included a video of the defendant sexually assaulting a child.

Alvarez's office said task force investigators determined the victims were 2 and 3 years old. The toddlers were left in Elias' care at various points over the last year, prosecutors said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5. Elias could face natural life in prison if convicted.
