Drunk Driving Charges Filed After Car Crashes Into Apartment

Police say a Gary, Indiana man was driving drunk when he crashed his car into a Northwest Indiana apartment Saturday morning.

Delmar J. Hunt, 28, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person. Poice say Hunt was driving south on on Broad Street in Schereville when he failed to stop at a three-way intersection and crashed into an apartment building at in the 960 block of East Joliet Street at about 5 a.m.

A mother and her 7-year-old daughter were sleeping in a bedroom about 10 feet away from the living room where the car came to rest, officals said.

No one was injured, including the driver and passenger in the car.

The mother and her daughter were displaced by the crash, but the structure of the rest of the 12-unit apartment building remained intact, Meyer said.

Hunt posted bail after appearing in court.
