The people's carriage is getting a high-tech update.

Eight businesses in Wicker Park are the first recipients of the CTA's Bus Tracker system flat screens, which track the location of all 2,000 CTA buses in order to provide estimated arrival times, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The monitors stream the arrival times across the bottom of the screen. Community news fills the rest of the viewing area.

The CTA also launched Monday a developer tools web page to allow developers to download the Bus Tracker code to create desktop apps, widgets and mobile applications.
