CPS Principal Ordered to Dumpster Dive

A Chicago Public Schools principal who allegedly tossed unused school supplies in the trash was ordered to dumpster dive to retrieve the items in light of a $612 million district deficit.

The supplies came from Northwest Middle School in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood, according to CPS officials.

"School supplies should never [be] thrown away unless they are completely unusable or unsuitable for the classroom, and this certainly was not the case in this situation," said CPS spokeswoman Becky Carroll, according to the Chicago Tribune.

They plan to distribute all the items that are still usable to schools in need.
