CPD Memorial Foundation Delivers Gifts to Family of Fallen Officers

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation traveled by motorcade on Sunday with Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves in tow to visit the homes of officers killed or seriously injured on the job. Since 2010, five Chicago police officers have been killed.

The motorcade comes on the heels of another motorcade that happened in New York on Saturday after two NYPD officers were shot dead in Brooklyn. Investigators believe the lone gunman posted threatening messages about police on his social media accounts before ambushing the officers.

"After what happened yesterday in New York, this hits home," said Phil Cline, former Chicago Police superintendant.

In Chicago, members of the foundation delivered presents to family members of fallen CPD officers.

"It's a pleasure they come to my house and give me gifts," said Naomi Taylor, whose father, Nathaniel Taylor, was shot and killed in 2008 after serving in the department for 14 years.

During the event, the deaths of officers around the country weighed heavy on Chicago law enforcement. Cline said it's a sobering reminder to honor those who sacrificed everything.

"We're a family who sticks together and supports each other when one of our officers goes down," Cline said. "Hopefully this will rally people to get behind police again."
