School Bus Carrying Children Catches Fire on I-57

Five people were transported to an area hospital

A school bus carrying children caught fire Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 57 on the Far South Side, officials said.

The bus caught fire in the northbound lanes of I-57 at 106th Street around 2 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.

Five people, including three teens and two children, were transported to an area hospital "as a precaution," according to ISP spokeswoman Monique Bond.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
