Burnham Police Chase Ends In Crash, Injuries In Chicago

Police aren't saying why they were trying to pull over woman's car

A woman being chased Thursday morning by Burnham Police crashed her car in front of a Chicago home and was rushed to the hospital.

Police aren't saying why they tried pulling over her car but officers ended up helping her after she crashed and flipped her Chevy Impala.

A lot of damage was left behind from the chase that started in Burnham and ended with a crash outside the home of Chicago resident Joe Batzek on 134th Street near Hammond, Ind. He said he saw police officers rush to get the woman out of the vehicle.

Witnesses said the Impala left the road, took out a chain fence and hit a barrier then rolled over and ended up wedged between another barrier and a log.

"I heard the sirens really loud so I came outside to see what was going on, and I heard a big screech," said neighbor David Leipert, who witnessed the crash. "I saw the car and the Burnham car behind it. She nailed that barrier, flipped over. It was pretty wild."

Without the barriers, the crash could have ended up in Batzek's home.

He said the woman appeared conscious when she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.
