Chicago police on Wednesday issued community alerts in the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park neighborhoods after burglars smashed through several business' doors and windows.

Police said a majority of the robberies occurred early in the morning between April 28 and June 18.

They said two to three thieves broke windows and took handbags from display racks at four Gold Coast stores. At other stores, they took cash from the registers. A description of the thieves was not immediately available.

Police also issued an alert after an armed robber pulled a handgun on pedestrians in the 2000 block of North Burling Street and 500 block of West Eugenie Street.

The street robber is described as an African-American man between the ages 18 and 25, standing 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-2, with a medium to dark complexion.

Police have warned business owners to set up alarm and surveillance systems before closing.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should call police at 321-747-8380.
