Brian Scalabrine Could Join Bulls Coaching Staff

The "White Mamba" could remain on the Bulls sidelines this season as an assistant coach

Brian Scalabrine has always been a fan favorite in Chicago, and even though it appears his NBA playing career may be over, it’s long been assumed the "White Mamba” would either go into broadcasting or coaching as both seemed natural fits for both his personality and knowledge of the game.

It appears the next phase in Scalabrine’s career will indeed be coaching, according to CSN Chicago, as he’s in line to join Tom Thibodeau’s coaching staff as an assistant for the upcoming season.

After Rick Brunson left for Charlotte to take a position with the Bobcats, Thibs was left with an opening on his staff. After essentially bringing Scalabrine with him from Boston when he took the Chicago head coaching job two years ago, it looks like he decided to keep Scal around a bit longer.

Scalabrine was always a positive influence in the locker room and contributed greatly to the well-publicized team chemistry the Bulls have had over the past two seasons.

His continued presence around the team as a mentor to both the younger and newer guys on the roster – especially in practice – should go a long way this season as the Bulls head into uncharted territory without Derrick Rose to lead them for a large portion of the year.
