Hot Dog! Bun Maker Donates Dough
S. Rosen's offers time and money to non-profit

It's the bun that holds it all together.
When you order a Chicago-style hot dog, it more than likely comes on an S. Rosen bun. Serving approximately 1,700 diners and hot dog stands in Chicago, the bread company sells a lot of dough. On Wednesday however, they were giving the dough away.
Steve Rosen, grandson of the founder of Alpha Baking presented a $120,000 check to the food bank facility in St. Charles.
"To think that a company would be so generous during tough economic times like this really speaks to their integrity and community involvement," said NIFB Associate Director of Development, Jarrod Daab.
But the company, which has been operating in the Chicago area for 100 years, didn’t stop there. Employees from S. Rosen's volunteered their time, processing nearly 10,000 pounds of food.
"Their enthusiasm and work ethic was amazing," said Volunteer Manager Tia Milne. "They came in, rolled up their sleeves and really exemplified what a difference people can make in the lives of others."
The 140,000-square-foot warehouse serves 520 partner agencies in Boone, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will, and Winnebago Counties.
"When you're feeding more than 50,000 people a week, you need a big operation," Sara Slavenas, communication manager for the food pantry, told The Kane County Chronicle.
Matt Bartosik, a "between blogs" blogger, never violates a Chicago-style dog with ketchup.
