Boy Injured After Hitting Tree While Sledding in NW Suburb

A young boy was injured Friday when he hit a tree while sledding down a large hill in northwest suburban Cary, officials said.

The child was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Michael Douglass with the Cary Fire Department.

A call for a boy who was unconscious after hitting a tree while sledding prompted the call for a helicopter, Douglass said, but the boy was conscious by the time officials arrived.

The boy was injured around 3:15 p.m. while sledding down a “large sledding hill” at Lions Park, officials said.

Lions Park remained open after the incident, Douglass said.
