An 11-year-old boy died Tuesday after being hit by an SUV on Interstate 57 last week.
The boy died at Advocate Christ Medical Center overnight, according to the Chicago Tribune. He had been in a medically induced coma over the last week to relieve pressure on his brain
The boy was playing on the side of the road near 103rd Street on I-57 on July 22 with his 15-year-old brother and an 11-year-old friend when he was hit.
Officials said the boy just happened to step out in front of a car. The driver of the SUV stopped after the incident and was not charged or cited, the Tribune reported.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office is scheduled to perform an autopsy later Wednesday.
