Chicago Police Officer Richard Bolling, charged in a fatal DUI crash that left a 13-year-old boy dead, was released from jail on bond Tuesday.
After 11 days in custody, a judge on Monday reduced Bolling's bail from $2 million to $1 million. He was to be released , but a problem with paperwork forced a delay.
It was May 22 when Bolling allegedly ran over Trent Booker, who was riding his bicycle near 82st and Ashland. Bolling, a 17-year department veteran who served in a tactical narcotics unit, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident where a death or injury occurred, driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street and transportation of alcohol.
The Cook County state's attorney's office said nearly four hours passed before the off-duty officer was given a Breathalyzer test, prompting questions of favoritism in the police department. Supt. Jody Weis said there was no evidence of preferential treatment, but that an investigation would continue.
Booker was buried Monday, and while more than 200 people attended the funeral, none were Chicago police officers. Family members told the Tribune they felt someone from the department should have shown up to offer condolences.
