Body Pulled From Water Near Museum of Science and Industry

An autopsy Sunday did not rule on the cause or manner of his death pending further investigation

The body of a man was pulled out of Jackson Park Lagoon Saturday morning near the Museum of Science and Industry in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit was called for reports of a body in the water about 9:30 a.m. near the museum at 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

Jamil Sharif, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 8800 block of South Saginaw Avenue.

Police are conducting a death investigation.

Three hours later, another man was found dead in the Chicago River near Union Station. Area Central detectives are conducting a noncriminal death investigation.
