Body Pulled From Montrose Harbor Positively ID'd

Body of Victor Martinez was recovered Tuesday morning

Officials on Wednesday morning confirmed a body retrieved from Montrose Harbor a day earlier is that of a man who jumped into Lake Michigan to help a woman who went in first.

Divers recovered the body of Victor Martinez during a renewed search on Tuesday morning.

A witness told NBC Chicago that a group of friends were hanging out in the harbor's parking lot early Monday when a female decided to jump in the water. Martinez reportedly jumped in when it became clear that she was struggling.

The witness said Martinez did not know how to swim. The woman was pulled from the water but Martinez was not immediately found.

The water temperature on Monday morning was in the low 30s.
